Kendrick Lamar Wins Lyricist Of The Year BET Award And Vows To Keep It Real
The stage was the BET Hip Hop Awards, the award up for grabs was the Lyricist Of The Year Award and the winner was none other than Hip Hop royalty, Kendrick Lamar. Up against stiff competition in the form of Kanye West, Drake, Chance The Rapper and J. Cole, as we expected; The Compton native beat out all to take home the prestigious award.
After a notable year that saw his 4th release Untitled Unmastered which was built around cuts and demos from To Pimp A Butterfly (2015), Lamar took to the stage to perform his hit track 'Alright' and later to receive the highly coveted Lyricist Of The Year Award.
Making a powerful statement to top it all off, Kendrick said in his own words “And as long as I’m alive I’ma always be kickin’ that real m****f*****’ shit, you feel me?”. The night turned out to be a big one as KL also walked away with awards for Best Live Performer and Best Featured Verse for his spot on Beyonce’s “Freedom.”
